I’m calling for the return of the cocktail party in 2012. What a great way to entertain.
Why? Whether your invite four or fourteen, a cocktail party can be pulled off quickly, the commitment is minimal and it’s easy entertaining for those who don’t cook because you don’t have to be a master chef to execute it.
Here’s how to do it. Provide small bites that you’ve made or picked up. Prepare a special appetizer for the event or offer some combination of a nut, a cheese, charcuterie and a fruit, like grapes. Have fun with a house cocktail or mocktail.
Start at 5 or 5:30 pm and allow for two hours party time, max. That’s just enough time to be hospitable and connect with your guests. And everyone will be out the door anyway because they’ve made dinner plans.
While nothing sweet to eat is necessary, this cocktail party is a piece of cake for the host! Why not give it a shot? -alyce eyster
